Hobby Founding Partner
Mr. Hobby has been intimately involved in traditional media businesses,
working in and around radio, newspaper and television
operations. In 1994, Mr. Hobby conceived and executed a strategy for integrating television and radio station operations through
improved information technology. That company, Columbine JDS
Systems, Inc., became the largest provider of media software
and services in the world. Mr. Hobby sold that company in 1997 to a NYSE listed company. Since then, Mr. Hobby and Genesis Park have helped to build a diversified group of companies in telecommunications, financial services, software and media. Genesis Park has often served as the regional partner for national private equity firms to source, structure, and execute successful transactions. Until February 2006, Mr. Hobby was Chairman of CapRock Communications, the largest global satellite telecommunications provider serving the global energy business. He is the Chairman and CEO of portfolio company Alpheus Communications.
In January of 2009 Mr. Hobby was named Deputy Chairman of the Houston Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. He currently serves on the boards of
publicly traded companies including Stewart Title and NRG. Other board memberships have included Amegy Bank, Coastal Bank, Aronex Pharmaceuticals, BASE Entertainment, Saracen Energy Offshore, Ltd., and Eagle Global Logistics. Additionally, Mr. Hobby is invovled in community service and has served on boards such as St. John's School, University of Texas Chancellors Council, Baylor College of Medicine, River Oaks Property Owners Association, Hermann Hospital, Greater Harris County 911, and the Greater Houston Community Foundation.
Mr. Hobby is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the
University of Texas School of Law, where he has been honored as an outstanding young alumnus and served as an adjunct faculty member. He has also served as a guest lecturer at Stanford University Graduate School of Business, Rice University and Texas State University.
Neil
Kelley Founding Partner
Mr. Kelley is also the founder and CEO of Saracen Energy, a Houston-based group of hedge funds engaged in multi-commodity trading in the physical and financial energy markets in North America (www.saracenenergy.com). Previously, Mr. Kelley was the
Vice-Chairman and a senior partner of the Vitol Group of
Companies (www.vitol.com). Established in 1965, Vitol has 25 offices around the world and more than $100 billion
in revenue making it one of the oldest, largest and most successful energy commodity trading organizations in the world. Mr. Kelley has a B.S.
degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology.
Peter
Shaper Founding Partner
Mr. Shaper currently serves as Chairman and CEO of CapRock Communications. CapRock is a global provider of broadband communications to remotelocations via satellite. During Mr. Shaper's tenure, CapRock has expanded globally growing from $30mm to over $250mm in revenue. Mr. Shaper was previously the president of Donnelley Marketing, a Division of First Data Corporation,
where he turned around and eventually sold the $100 million
revenue database marketing company to a strategic buyer. In
1996, Mr. Shaper helped found the Information Management Group
(IMG) as its Executive Vice President of Operations and Chief
Financial Officer. IMG grew to over $600 million in revenue
during Mr. Shaper’s tenure. IMG was a startup company, which
both incubated and acquired information services businesses.
Prior to joining IMG, Mr. Shaper was with a Dallas-based
private equity firm where he was responsible for investments
in numerous technology-oriented companies, as well as
assisting those companies with developing long-term strategies
and financial structures. Mr. Shaper also has several years
experience with the international consulting firm McKinsey
& Company. Mr. Shaper holds a B.S. in industrial
engineering from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from
Harvard Business School.
Steven J. Gibson
Founding Partner
Mr. Gibson is one of Genesis Park’s founding
partners. Mr. Gibson has over twenty years experience
advising, structuring, negotiating, and participating in a
variety of business transactions as legal counsel and
principal. Since 1994, Mr. Gibson has sourced, acquired, developed and sold over $250 million dollars in Houston real estate. Through a variety of investment
vehicles, Mr. Gibson bought, restructured, and sold discounted
loan packages from the FDIC; owned and operated hotels in
Texas and Illinois and a ski resort in New Mexico; acquired or
developed numerous retail, office, and industrial real estate
projects in Texas; and, most recently, actively participated
in the acquisition, operations and consolidation of used auto
parts distribution and salvage yards. From 1993 to 1994, Mr.
Gibson was a partner in the law firm of Boling and Gibson
L.L.P. From 1992 to 1993, Mr. Gibson was president and
co-founder of a highly successful residential construction
company in the western suburbs of Chicago. From 1985 to 1992,
Mr. Gibson was an attorney with the Houston law firm of
Fulbright & Jaworski. Mr. Gibson obtained a B.S. in Civil
Engineering from Notre Dame and a JD from Southern Methodist
University School of Law.
Cathy Leeson
CFO
Ms. Leeson is the Chief Financial Officer of Genesis Park. Since 1997, Ms. Leeson has served as the Chief Financial Officer of Hobby Communications where she oversees investments and related tax and accounting issues. From 1985 through 1996, Ms. Leeson served as Corporate Tax Manager and then Vice President and Treasurer of H & C Communications, which owned a group of television and radio stations. Ms. Leeson was previously a Tax Manager of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, where she served for eight years. Ms. Leeson, a Certified Public Accountant, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Southwestern University and a Master of Professional Accounting degree from the University of Texas.
Julie McClure
Vice-President - Communications
Ms. McClure serves as
Director of Communications and coordinates the firm’s
institutional and community relationships. Prior to joining
Genesis Park, Ms. McClure served as a legislative aide for James E. “Pete” Laney, Speaker of the Texas House of
Representatives. Before joining the Speaker's staff, Ms. McClure
worked on numerous state and local political campaigns, served
on the staff of Congressman "Mac" Thornberry
and was Chief of Staff for David
Langston, Mayor of the City of Lubbock, Texas. A native of
Texas, Ms. McClure
has a B.A. in German and English from Texas Tech
University. She has served on the boards of the Hermann Park Conservancy, the Midtown Management District, and the Greater Southeast Management District and is also a Director of the Texas Lyceum Association.
Stephanie Adams
Director of Research
Ms. Adams serves as
Genesis Park's Director of Research and is responsible for database
administration and reporting for Genesis Park's deal, partner
and talent tracking tools. Ms. Adams also plays a key part in
deal screening and due diligence. Prior to joining Genesis Park, Ms.
Adams worked as the Director of Training for the Computer
Division of Pro Staff Personnel Services. Ms. Adams has also
owned and operated a database training and administration
company whose clients included EECC, Battle Mountain Gold,
Hoechst Celanese and Baylor.
